University of Connecticut – STARS Platinum Rating

UConn has received a “STARS Platinum” rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for its overall performance in all areas of sustainability, including “Academics”, “Engagement”, “Operations”, “Planning and Administration”, and “Innovation and Leadership”.  Particularly impressive was our receipt of essentially perfect scores in “Academics” and “Engagement”!  AASHE executes the most rigorous and comprehensive, as well as third party-verified, sustainability assessment in all of higher education.

More specifically, the university ranked 6th out of 1,002 institutions in the US and Canada that registered to participate in the assessment, and was 1 of only 7 institutions garnering Platinum Status!

The entire university community should be very proud of this collective accomplishment.  Particularly noteworthy are the efforts of the Office of Sustainability in the Institute of the Environment.  A team of dedicated Sustainability Interns (undergraduates), led by Rich Miller and Patrick McKee, have tirelessly compiled the necessary data and crafted the compelling arguments that have resulted in our stellar evaluation.
